What is reverse osmosis?

Reverse osmosis is a water purification technology that utilizes a semi-permeable membrane to effectively remove various contaminants from drinking water, including ions, larger molecules, and particulates. In this process, pressure is applied to the water, forcing it through the membrane that allows only water molecules to pass while rejecting a significant portion of dissolved solids and other impurities. This results in purified water on one side of the membrane, while the contaminants are left behind on the other side.
